Advice on Soundcards please

I need to replace the soundcard on my system.

I did have a soundblaster Audigy Platinum with breakout box, but it, and two refurbished replacements have all gone awol, so I'm going to start again.

I dont play games or watch movies on my computer - I edit soundtracks, audio programmes, and do post production audio work on video productions I'm working on - using a variety of applications including Wave Lab and Cool edit.

I need a card with a breakout box that has both analogue and digital line inputs and outputs (a mic level input would be a bonus, but not essential) - I need to record from minidisk or DAT and output to both.

Can anyone reccommend a (non Soundblaster) card that fits the bill. Budget is a consideration, but I'm prepared to spend a bit on a quality solution.

All advice gratefully recieved.

Look at the M-Box from Digidesign.

Also consider the Focusrite Saffire (Click on "Hardware" then "Saffire" as it won't link dirrectly).

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestions John, I've had a good look at both (on-line) and the M-Box seems excellent, though probably a tad more that I was anticipating. I see it comes with Pro-Tools LE, which I know to be highly professional kit but a learning curve that I dont need at my level of work. Its unclear whether M Box will work with the applications I am used to.

Can you (or anyone else) suggest anything a little, well less expensive!

On another, related topic I also looking for some software that allows me to do post-production audio work on my video productions 'to-picture'. i think Steinberg's Nuendo does this, but again this is somewhat out of my league budget wise.

Thanks in advance

There are several options HERE.

You may find the Fast Track USB more in your price range.
