For those of you that are not already aware, it has been released today. Luckily, I have a complimentary upgrade, so, the download has started, and it will be installed on a newish imac.

If you buy a new mac you tend to get the next OS system as a comp if it is due in a few months!

Correct. We upgraded one of our iMacs in June. It always astonishes me that the sale of a 2 year old iMac is hardly less than the cost of a new one. They really hold their value so well.

Last time, I managed to buy one with a 15% discount fromComet, by buying a voucher code from Ebay (perfectly legitimate). The sale price was only about 25% less than retail new price.

The interesting thing about Lion (and other apps from the app store) is that once you have paid once, you are free to install it on up to 5 machines. I have upgraded our other iMac and my macbook pro.

First impressions - I like the new Mail layout, finding it more difficult to get used to the scrolling (what I think is up, is down!), I think the launchpad will be a great timesaver, and have not discovered anything else yet!

I looked back through 25 mins of question listings, and could not find one thing that had affected me. I gave up at that point.

The install went smoothly, my mail works, my internet works, and the launchpad works fine. New mail that I generate includes my signature, so, that covered most of the issues raised.

The scrolling took me a few weeks to get used to -- in fact, it was only when I upgraded all my macs that I left it switched in the new mode. Switching from the iMac (at that point still running SL) in down-down mode to the AIR (Lion) in up-down mode was very annoying, you never got either machine right!

I was the same but decided against changing it as the new method seems more logical, especially if you're used to using an iPhone or an iPad. Having played with a wireless trackpad in the Apple store, I'm actually tempted to get one of these and ditch the mouse all together which would make using my iMac exactly like the other two devices.

Stuart, you may wish to consider looking for one on Ebay - we got one for £30

Really? That's about half price, isn't it? Thanks for the tip! :)
