ATAPI drivers not found.

Today I tried to re-load an image with Power Quest. The CD won`t load.
A message “warning. No ATAPI CDROM drivers found.
Driver not found MSCD001. No valid CDROM driver selected.”

The CD and DVD drives are seen by XP, and I can use the CD drive.
I have tried another CD drive and IDE cable. Also booting from the usb external DVD drive, and get the same message.

Tried an XP repair. Set up runs and I can select R for repair. I get a choice of partition 1 or 2. Both Windows as it`s duel boot. The other choice is Exit.
I can get round it by running from floppies. A bit slow though.

Anyone know where the drivers are, or how they have become lost please.

that is an mscdex error message , usually when booting from dos and no driver files have been loaded to tell the system that atapi drivers exist.

you did make a powerquest boot floppy ?

Errrrrr. No! But I have Power Quest 4 on floppies. It won`t read ntsf drives, but I can use disk 1, press a key to get the A: prompt and run the program from a floppy. I copied the files from the CD.

I can`t see any drivers on the CD. Where are they loaded from please?

when you made the image with powerquest it should have either

1. offered to make a boot floppy
2. offered to create a boot cd

either of which would have had dos level cd reading drivers or like winxp boot cd have booted to a dos prompt and then allowed re-installing of image file.

i haven't used powerquest for a while , i use ghost , so maybe they have changed approach to this.

you could try booting with

I don`t have an option in PQ4 to make a floppy. The help file says nothing.
The version I run is on a CD with other utils, and obtained from a friend`s upgrade.

However. We are working again. MSCDEX.exe is mentioned as in windows batch files and DOS. The boot screen said there were no CDROM drives found. This took me to the BIOS. Cleared the CMOS and all`s well. I will look into the PQ boot though.
Many thanks.

ok.
if bios 'lost' the cd drives , your drivers wouldn't be able to do anything ...... hadn't thought about that
