I wonder if anyone can help a novice.
I have recently purchased a new PC,Athlon1000 with all the associated bits.It came preloaded with Windows ME.
I use Pinnacle DC30plus with Premiere5.1.
Problem 1 - When I am using clips on the timeline, the source & target windows do not operate, ie - when the timeline is running these two windows just "freeze".
Problem 2 - When I have finished with Premiere I save & close in the normal way, but then I get an error message stating "Premiere has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL. premiere will now close".I can not do anything with screen, when I click the "close " button in the error window, the screen goes black,I cannot shut PC down. I have tried al the combo of keys but the only way to shut down is to reboot & then close down in the normal way.
Problem 3 - I also have a problem sometimes when I have clips on the superimpose tracks, they go "black", no film strip can be seen.
This is my second PC, the first was Windows98 & I had none of these problems & as a novice did quite well with Premiere. My friends ars telling me to get rid of ME, they have had probs with running various programs.
I wondered if anyone has had the same or similar problems with ME & have returned to 98.I have chatted to Bob Crabtree & thinks there's a possiblity that ME could be the problem.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers

If you have Win98SE use that. Win Me has just too many bugs and quirks and has no real improvement over 98SE

Just a thought. What is the difference between Windows 98 & Windows98SE. Being a novice but trying, I find all these things confusing. I already have the disc Windows98.
Thanks Ed

The difference between 98 and 98SE is that 98SE has the Y2K updates built-in as well as all the other system/driver updates up to April 99. If you d/l all the win98 updates inc DirectX, mediaplayer (6.4 - don't get 7.0) etc there is little differnence between the two except for the enhanced utilities like Internet connect sharing etc which have limited appeal.

There is no real need to buy W98SE it just means less D/L with windows update!

Hi Bomag
Thanks for all the info, I have already informed my PC suppler that I wish for ME to be removed & to install 98SE.
Try to let you Know the results of the return to 98SE when I start using Premiere again.
Info most appreciated.
