Athlon XP in real world?

Just wondering if anyone can report real-world video-editing experience with an Athlon XP?

Are the chips really that much faster for the given clock rate? E.g. the 1600+ clocks at 1.4, but is claimed to be equal to a 1.6 straight Athlon.

I'm chugging along on an 850 Duron, but I want a faster CPU (the MB will do 266 FSB and take XP), and the XP 1600+ is actually cheaper than a straight 1.4 Athlon.

Any views to help the buying decising welcome!

Running 1800+ so far so good faster than my 2xPIII 500

This isnt exactly scientific, but my new XP1600+ runs TmpgEnc 8 times faster than my previous machine (Celeron 300A @ 450Mhz) used to, so I'm well pleased !

My 1600+ certainly seems fast although I can't give you any quantified 'x% faster than regular 1.4' for editing applications.
I do specifically recall reading that XP's run about 20% cooler than their clock-speed equivalent which is perhaps another good reason to go for one.

Thanks for the responses, nice to see all very positive. Looks like I shall have to go for one - probably next time the local computer fair at Bracknell is on!
