Background Noise

So - I've got the following setup.

Sony A1E , Rode NTG2 mic, and the Sony Microphone.

I have a Paglight kit on top of it too.

I want to be able to interview people and be able to have some background noise - but not loud - i.e background.

I run the NTG2 on a mic on the side - and the Sony is on an extended cable for the "interviewer"

The NTG2 picks up some serious background noise (mebbe its TOO good?)

Is there a setting which I can do? a fix? please help :)

What i'd love is a mic balance for channel 1 and 2 - but doesn't seem to be one - there appears to be one for mic 1 but it er, sucks.

BTW - testing was via headphones not on a system.

Are you sure there's no separate control for 1/2 levels? My A1 has, in STANDARD SET menu, XLR SET, 3 items:

AU ch1 level: Auto/Manual and a manual level slider
AU ch2 level: same
AU man gain: Separate/linked

and the controls work. Sre you sure you've not got manual controls?

Alan - thanks chap, found the right bit now - was looking in normal volume - oops!

Cheers :)

... Just got the camera working in Premiere Pro v2 - shame Windows doesn't detect it properly.

Alan - you got PM

Windows XP Home and XP Pro both detect mine properly. I can capture and edit HDV on the new laptop in Canopus HQ and on a 1.68G Dell centrino laptop in MPEG2 TS, using Edius Pro4.
