Any one any ideas on what cameras are being used in the latest reports from the Syrian conflict. There was a very noticable change from useing mobile phone footage to HD pictures - seemed to be quite short DoF. Just interested to know.

I noticed that too and they had a very wide angle lens on it, very good quality pictures and the presenter also had a radio mic on.

Might be one of the new canon's (XF305 or even a 105?) with wide angle adaptor.

More likely to be one of their new PMW500s as it's news, though if a local crew it could be anything!

I'm also hearing quite a big uptake of the Canon C300, even within news for certain types of work. That seems to be be the current camera of choice for broadcast large format work.

A PMW500 and C300 would be a pretty good combination for that sort of work. Use the 500 for most work, the C300 for "arty" shallow DOF shots, or when you want to look as if you've just got a stills camera.
