Team, I've had a Zoe remote control from my Z1 days and have appreciated its beautifully smooth rocker for zooming my Sony cameras. I've never much liked its compexity, feeling that the three tiny buttons are too easily mixed up in dim light and bright excitement.
Hey-ho, but suddenly it's started behaving erratically, zooming in or out (at the slowest speed) entirely on a whim. It still works ok, but at the end of a manual zoom it might suddenly decide to zoom back to wide again, all by itself. This ruins shots as you can imagine. It's not got wet or been abused, so anyone else had this, and know of a cure?
My wedding on Saturday was saved by the kindness of Ray Liffen of this parish, who lent me his Libec. This is what a zoom controller should be - simple. A rec button and a zoom rocker. Sorted. I must try and find one but they weren't available at BVE. Can you imagine that at the Video Forum of old?
Oh, and I saw 'Allan Roberts at work' at BVE. Remember him, my long-standing friends? He was being interviewed and when I went back to try and catch him he'd vanished.
tom.
"but at the end of a manual zoom it might suddenly decide to zoom back to wide again"
Couldn't you sell it to the new "meeja" guys (in the words of Gary, another long lost friend of this parish, and many others) to fit their style of video?
"Allan Roberts at work'" also very sadly missed.

Strangely enough I've just had this with my Libec unit. I've used it for several years on my now defunct Canon XHA1 without missing a beat but now it's fitted on a Panasonic and has started doing just as Tom describes. I'm hoping it's down to the lead - it's 2.5 at one end and 3.5 at the other with a step-down adaptor to 2.5 (its not the original) I've just got a replacement lead with the same jack at both ends and it seems ok but I've not had chance to test it over a long period yet.
robo
I'd hope that it was the lead gone short.
I fixed a lanc remote by buying a 2.5 to 2.5 cable and cutting it in half to create 2 x new leads with tails, as the units were captive leads.
some use plug in leads
