This is probably going to be one of those - "Doh, why didn't I think of that?" - answers, but here goes anyway.
I bought a Bluetooth USB Adaptor so I can use my laptop to organise mp3 files on my mobile phone. Now first of all I need to let you know that I'm a complete novice when it comes to mobile phones. If it wasn't for the fact that Mrs Chirpy said she'd feel safer if I had a mobile in case she needs to get in touch, I'd probaably still be without one. I've had the phone since mid February and only used it once to ask her to record last Tuesday's Man Utd match. If it came down to sending a text message I'd be completely lost - I haven't even worked out how to take a picture with it yet! Most of the time I just use it as an mp3 player.
Anyway back to my problem. The instructions with the Bluetooth USB Adaptor say:
Before you start
- Remove any Microsoft native driver.
- Please remove any previous version of Widcomm Bluetooth Software existing in your system.
Okay, I know that to remove the Widcomm software I go to 'Add or Remove Programs', but how do I remove the Microsoft native driver? I've done a search for this on Google but all I can find is the same set of instructions with none of them explaining how to do it.
As I said earlier, is this a "Doh, why didn't I think of that?" answer or is there more to it?
have you installed any bluetooth drivers so far ?
have you plugged the unit into usb yet ?
if neither of above are yes , just do a standard install.
if it installs microsoft drivers then go to hardware , right click , select update drivers , and point at ones supplied with usb bluetooth dongle

Hi Gary,
I'm going to bed in a moment as I've been trying to work this out most of the day and it's doing my head in. Before I go, have you left something out of your reply above? When I go to Hardware, what do I 'right click' on?
I'll read your reply when my brain has had a rest! :)
Hi Chirpy!
1) My computer
2) Properties
3) Hardware
4) Device Manager
5) Select device and change or de-install driver
Mike
thanks michael
Yes, thanks Michael - and Gary. I knew it was going to be something so stupidly simple! :o Unfortunately it hasn't solved the problem so I presume it must be something at the phone end. I remember last time I tried pairing the phone with another computer I kept getting the two code numbers mixed up! This time though the laptop doesn't even 'see' another Bluetooth device when it does a search. I've set the phone to allow it to be seen but no joy.
Hi Chirpy,
Don't know whether my experience is anything like yours, but I had a USB bluetooth dongle so that I could sync my IPAQ without wires. Worked OK, although my original idea was to be able to use the IPAQ to surf and check emails from other points in the house. That wasn't very succesful, cos the IPAQ's transmitter only had a 15ft range.
Anyhow, all was OK until XP SP2, which kindly provided new USB drivers for bluetooth, and my poor dongle never worked again!!
Hope yours isn't affected by the same sickness!!
I don't think so Dave,
I've only had the dongle about a month and I managed to get it to work on this PC but it won't work now. I also got my laptop to 'see' the phone but couldn't pair the two up so I reinstalled the bluetooth program and now it doesn't notice the phone at all.
