Since installing a BT Voyager 105 USB ADSL Modem to access 'Broadband' on my new pc,
I am experiencing :
Frequent crashes and lock-up with the 'blue screen' error message :
BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER
followed by the dumping of physical memory to disk.
I've uninstalled / reinstalled.
On web advice I've fitted a powered usb hub ( Trust 411E ).
All to no avail !!!!!
Can anyone help please.

what pc do you have ?
are you connecting the modem to a usb1 or usb2 connection , or what is the hub connected to and what make of hub ?
If you are using windows xp sp2 , you may need to alter the settings for powermanagement of all hubs , i posted some info about this a wee while ago.
Gary,
Many thanks for prompt reply.
1. PC is a Dell Dimension DIM 5100 ( Pent.2.80 GHz - 512 MB RAM )
2. Modem connectec to a Trust 411E powered hub which in turn is plugged into one of the 5 rear usb ports. Not sure but imagine they are usb2
3. Yes , XP Home Edition - version 2002 - SP2
Can you point me to your power management post please.

i would suggest you put a modem into a seperate connection and only run it off that connection and not thru a hub.
It was in that configuration when the fault originally occured Gary.
It was suggested that too much power was being taken from the pc by direct connection, hence the purchase & use of the powered hub.
If I revert, I'll be no further forward !
Have you come across this particular error code before ?

It is a usb device with bad drivers ( or being handled badly ) or a memory problem.
what exactly do you already have attached to usb ports , and if you think it will help , you can connect hub to port , power it , and ONLY connect modem to it.
dell may not have installed proper usb2 drivers on the pc , and it may only be now that you are noticing it.
your 4 port hub is a usb1.1 hub , so may not be helping any ........
i don't run either of our usb adsl boxes out of hubs , they caused me problems.
try this , i know it will sound weird , plug modem into a port on the front of the pc.
Thanks Gary,
1. ? ( or being handled badly ) ?
2. The modem driver is taken from the same disc as used for my 'upstairs' pc - also a Voyager 105 modem and giving no problems. BUT , that pc is running on 2000 Pro - not XP !
3. When the new one crashes again, I'll plug into a front connection & let you know.

1. driver isn't integrated properly , maybe an old version and it is trying to use system files more up to date than it knows about or vice versa.
2. there are new drivers on http://www.voyager.bt.com/usb105/pcdownload.htm @ 2.15MB
3. good idea
If this doesn't work, It could also be the onboard USB (Whatever chip DELL use).
Interestingly, we have a DELL Optiplex GX260 (Running XP) at work we use for DVB monitoring, we have had untold problems with the ASI<>USB2 adapter, blue screens etc. The fix was to fit a new USB2 PCI card and use that.
G.
Thanks G
If it comes to that I'll go the same route.

Thanks Gary,
I'll download the new driver - in any case

The post about the seperate USB card reminded me, a colleague at work had exactly that problem with an early BT Broadband modem. The USB port couldn't provide enough power to drive the modem properly. Fixed by a PCI USB card (it was USB 1 at the time though)
Thanks Dave for confirming G's recommendation.
She has crashed again so I've downloaded the driver and reconnected to front USB port.
Let's see how long this combo lasts !
thanks to All
