ok... so it has come time to build a computer for my editing needs.

Ideally, I want two Xeon 3.6 processors inside. Is this possible? what sort of cooling would be needed for this?

Also, what type of motherboard could support this twin xeon action?

And perhaps, is it possible to have dual dualcore processors? I am interested in this...

basically, for the moment, my main concern is on the cpu and motherboard. I need a motherboard that can house the twin processors and do it with ease.
Also, which is more feasible... dual xeon 3.6 or dual dualcore 3.2 processors?

Any help or info is much appreciated!

dual xeon are definately available.
dual pentium 4d i'm not sure about , nor amd's x2 chips.

twin xeon motherboards are available from :

tyan , i.e. http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1319

a review of 7 xeon motherboards : http://www.tomshardware.com/motherboard/20041111/

cooling isn't a problem , the xeons have massive fans , and massive heatsinks , the fans (on my motherboard ) not sitting on the xeons but at the side of them.

my case is a full 19" tower ( or you can put it horizontally ) and features 7x 5 1/4" slots on the 'front'

if you are going to buy this level of technology , i suggest you find a good dealer to buy a 'working system' from.

So......I am quite new to this, sorry in advance for posting if this is the wrong area. I too am in desperate need of a editing Hot Rod. How does yours work?(harlequin) I mean is it fast? Does your software use Xeons in a more efficient manner Than single P4? Is it loud, having two or more fans? I looked at an XPS Dual core from Dell, it has 8 fans, that has got to be loud, or have I not bought a new computer for so long and they all have this? I was thinking about Pinnacle Liquid Edition as the software, do you have an opinon on this? Thanks for any info, i dont buy very often trying to get as much info as i can.

1. like a dream
2. i think it was fast , but there are as fast machines today , a lot cheaper.
3. edius uses the hyperthreading and dual processor , whereas previous software didn't.
4. don't know that delll pc , but 8 fans don't necessarily need to be noisy , not if they spend money on silent fans.
5. Pinnacle Liquid : there are better people here to answer that for you , pop over to http://forums.dvdoctor.net/forumdisplay.php?f=12

Thank you for writing back. I looked up Edius, their specs show recommended Dual Xeon. Looking for pricing, a 3.4 Xeon with 2gb of ram three hd $4500. And I would still need to buy the software. Seems kinda high. I guess i will wait a little longer and see if a sale pops up.

The problem with NLE is that when the new kit comes out , the software , rewritten , requires the new level.

I am already too slow to run HD in realtime.
