CD-RW connection

CD-RW failure

I run a Windows98SE OS and have a lite-on external CD-RW, which (and I stress) previously worked. Then, for no apparent reason, the OS fails to recognise the CD-RW in my device manager and the CD-RW fails to show as an option in the nero CD burning software. I have re-installed nero software, removed and re-installed USB drives, but still nothing.
I should add that the CD-RW appears in device manager in safe mode but not in normal mode.
Any ideas?

Did you try removing it when in safe mode?

Under 98, this was quite commonly a sign of a virus infection.
