[I'm closing this thread and moving it to the MPEG forum, which is a more appropriate place. I'll come back here in a few days time and delete this version. Bob C]

Hope this subject has not already been covered, have looked but could not find any topics.

I am very new to the world of Computer Video, I am running a DV500 system with Premier 6, also supplied was Minerva Impression 2.0. I am not getting on to well with Impression. I was very interested in the article on WinOnCD 3.8 in Mays edition. I wish to go the way of producing interactive CD's & DVD's, for use in the training and mixed media field such as databases information, stills and video interaction.

Could anyone please answer the following questions:

1. Can WinOnCD process MPEG 2 files ?

2. Does it come with any preset menu's ?

3. Can I use it to turn standard music CD tracks into Wav files ?

4. Is there another product that I should consider ?

Any advice will be gratefully received.

Geoff Kirby

WinOnCD 3.8 will make MPEG-2 based discs, but not with interactive menus.

The interactive presentations are all made to VCD 2.0 standard, which must contain white-book standard MPEG-1 files and not MPEG-2.

It doesn't come with any preset menus, you have to build them all tourseld, but this isn't a big deal.

I think it does rip WAV files from CD, but can't remember offhand.

For interactive VCD, WinOnCD is the canine's wotsits. But for MPEG-2 usage, you may want to consider a DVD authoring package such as Spruce Up - DVD projects written to CD will generally only play in computers though.

If you want to make multimedia discs for playing in PCs, have a look at Illuminatus, Director, or Xenturi.

Cheers,

Pete
