Hi all,

I need to purchase 50 Firewire cards for the college. I've found a cheapy from Dabs but was wondering if it could get any lower.

Shame the right lead isn't included.

Ebuyer's own is ridiculously cheap - £5.07, inc VAT. And they have another which is a bit under £10 and, seemingly, includes a cable.

Personally, if I were going to buy 50 - and where ever I bought from - I'd buy one and give it a damn good workout or, perhaps in the case of the two ebuyer products, I'd buy one of each and test them thoroughly.

Oh, and one other thing - if these PCs don't have USB 2.0, then it may be a good idea to consider getting a combined FireWire/USB 2.0 card.

Scan has one for £11.34.

Thanks all.

So what is the best way of determining if you have USB 2.......apart from plugging something into it!

I plugged in my flash memory card and it display that annoying message about running faster under USB 2 so I guess it ain't ogt it.

Thanks for the supplier Gary and thanks Bob for the USB 2 suggestion.

USB2 Question?

All very interesting reading I did as harelquin says and looked into my device manager and no mention of USB2 anywhere so presumably it isn't currently on this PC.

Now if i buy the card that Bob mentions:
( Oh, and one other thing - if these PCs don't have USB 2.0, then it may be a good idea to consider getting a combined FireWire/USB 2.0 card).

Will this mean i will have USB2 on my PC with this new card installed?

Thanks in anticipation that it will!

this is a purely personal opinion.

buy two seperate cards.
they'll cost a little more , BUT , they tend to work , in my experience , whereas some usb/firewire combos ..... DON'T

for example a firewire card at 7.11 plus a usb2 card etc at 19.99 = more than the multi function card

but probably more stable

I have gone for two separate card too. But mines purely a logistical decision as oppossed to a technical one.

I usually ask, what's the most expensive xxxx, as anything cheap seems to be a false economy especially in constant use.

Will bring the price down yet again.
