Found this (via an AVS Forum). Too good a rumour not to spread...;)

TM700 3hr+ batteries ( not Panasonic, but reputed to work ) $17.99

User comments look promising, but I haven't bought one myself (...yet...)

Panasonic used the VBG260 for the HMC-151 and a near identical VBD210 for the old GS-500. On the surface there was only a very slight difference in the mounting lugs (easily changed with a small file) which prevented the older batteries from being mounted on newer Panasonic cameras. However, the HMC-151 detected that the VBD210 batteries didn't provide the battery life left in minutes (rather than the older style 3 or 4 bars) , and completely rejected them. It's possible that the same may happen with non-Panasonic batteries. I'm quite happy without an exact readout of battery life, but the cameras themselves may stop perfectly good batteries from being used.

Thanks Mick.... Good to see that both are recognised by the 700 and report battery durations correctly..... d.
