Hi all,
I hope this request fits ok in this section. As a new Mac convert i have used Iweb to rebuild my website. It looks ok on a Mac (well it would wouldn't it!) but i would be grateful if people could give it a quick check and let me know if it works ok on other browsers/pc's. Any comments and ideas would be greatly appreciated too.
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Hi Mike.
Nice, clear informative site, without overdoing it, I like it. Dont know if you intended the text on your embedded Vimeo clips to be on display? If you didnt you can go to the html code for the clips and delete all the words that show on your page (they will be in black)

Looks good to me, clean, informative. I do get a white page 'flash' every now and again with it - it loads a white page then loads your background colour page - not every time just now and again. Personally, I prefer a Sans-serif font like Verdana/Arial/Helvetica, I use a high res screen (1280x1024) and serif fonts don't look as clear to read.

I have just done a 30 second tour of the site and will trawl it in more detail later - first impressions were that I hate the shutter style white cross fade between web pages. Just use a simple dissolve. The white shutter adds nothing to the site and is unneccesary....

Same here - with Firefox and Safari there is a lot of white showing before the page loads fully.

Also I don't think that the plural of DVD should have an apostrophe which designates either possession or abbreviation - quite prepared to be proven wrong but I think it should be DVDs.

Have you looked at Rapidweaver by the way? Excellent cost-effective web authoring for the Mac with a great community supporting it.

p.s. - like the look of the site :)

Mike, you might want to take a look at: http://browsershots.org/

Allows you check how your page looks with different OS's and browsers - it takes a screen shot that you can download and check.

Site seems fine. When I first looked at it the white flashes were short smooth and looked like they were part of the design, but looking at it again after reading the comments(and probably a busier time?) they are longer and not smooth at all.

Hi all and huge thanks for that. Working on the various suggestions now. Incidentally the white flashes are not intended. I don't know what's causing them but looking into that too.

OK changes made. New font (verdana), embedded texts on vimeo clips removed, apostrophes on the DVDs removed, links working which weren't before.... i think thats about it. Can't seem to do anything about the white flashes though. If the page loads slowly once the cache has been emptied then you do see a lot of white but loading from cache or on a quick download and its often either very quick or invisible. Don't think i can do anything about that but others may of course know a way.
Anyway thanks for all your input.

Hi Mike

Had a look at the site. On Firefox there is no evidence of the white flashes. On Internet Explorer they are there but not all the time for me.

Thanks for putting this up. I'm looking to use iweb for my site as well as my current one is run by a friend and I don't have the know how to go in and change things on a day to day basis. iweb looks up my street as I would easily be able to change things when needed

Cheers

Looks good to me. Calm, clear and artistically professional. And Hedley's spot on with his apostrophes.

Thanks Tom thats good to hear. Jon thanks for the feedback on the white flashes. I can totally recommend iWeb. It was a doddle to use and has enough features for what i needed. A few hours work followed by another one tweaking the really useful feedback from here and it is up and running. I also downloaded Filezilla to upload the files to my web host. It was free and is very quick and easy to use.
