On April 6, 2008, it snowed. This was somewhat unexpected for Slough. It confused our garden cohort no end.

In fact, the Robin from next door (who is young and inexperienced) saw this as a sign of doom and chose theft over starvation, much to the chagrin of our Robin - an old bruiser who prefers noodles to spaghetti and white bread over brown.

It started out as a test of my new EX1, trying out the S&Q mode, looking at 1080i downconvert to 720p vs native 720p, but in the 20 mins or so of rushes, I managed to find a little story (even though it required a little sleight of hand).

Hope you like it.

Very nice. I was also very impressed with the quality of Vimeo as a hosting site - how can Youtube continue to get away with such ghastly video?

Nice - I'm just up the road in Maidenhead and really wanted to get out and do some timelapses, unfortunatley bright sun, snow and hangovers don't go together really too well..... ;-)
You should check out the UWOL challenge on uwolchallenge.com - it's a bi-monthly online film comp, and this type of film would really fit well....

Thanks all for encouraging comments!

@Dominic - yes, Vimeo is an interesting service. I hope they win long-term. Somehow, because they're trying to do it right, I fear for their long-term survival, but perhaps with more support...

Nice one! (and greetings to fellow Berkshire person)

I'll follow that up...

Robins are highly territorial and aggressive. I keep a bird feeder filled with nuts for the tits and finches, and the robins can't get into it. Otherwise, the robins would monopolise it. I feed the robins separately (until blackbirds etc come and mop it all up) and they stand under the nut feeder waiting for mannah to fall from heaven :)

Get my test cards document, and cards for 625, 525, 720 and 1080. Thanks to Gavin Gration for hosting them.
Camera settings documents are held by Daniel Browning and at the EBU
My book, 'Circles of Confusion' is available here.
Also EBU Tech.3335 tells how to test cameras, and R.118 tells how to use the results.

"Robins are highly territorial and aggressive."

Had a toy Robin once and tied it to a tree in our garden, it had the stuffing torn out of it by the territorial owner Robin.

Ye gods, our gardens are like a bad night in Brixton if you're cute-looking and feathered.

But as a corollary, our two birds have literally kissed and made up. Turns out nextdoor's a she and ours' a he (it's not just humans that have difficulty telling them apart). So we caught him feeding her (no, of course the camera wasn't reachable in time - that's going to change). Very romantic.

Getting more like human beings. Must be watching too many soaps?
