Is the Dazzle/Fast DVnowAV the right card for me?
I want to be able to capture either analog or digital video and create MPEG-2 "video"with the edited output.
My system is p3-700, 512MB, ata100 30gig dedicated with a AIW 16 Mb video card.
What determines the captured video quality (assuming good video source), the PCI encoder card itself or the CPU/Memory/Hard drive?
The other product I looked at was the DVC2 as it has onboard MPEG-2 compression and is not as dependent on my weak system.
Thank-you
JB
You will be fine with a P3 system.
Captured video quality depends on the DV codec. In this case the FastDV codec is used which happens to be one of the best DV codecs on the market up there with Canopus.
The DV Now.AV comes with the Ligos LSX encoder plugin to encode to Mpeg (1 or 2) so you can encode your files to Mpeg. For the money it's really hard to beat.

Thanks for the reply..
I was looking at the DV500+ but do not really need the real time feature. If the quality of the capture is good with the DV.now.Av (could these companies make thier product names any more confusing?)there is no "cents" in paying for the extra features the DV500+.

FWIW: The real time in DV500+ is rather limited. Not realtime for firewire output, just for some effects in analog output, so you may not be giving up much.
I decided to go with the Dazzle Hollywood DV-Bridge and give it a try. It seems they have a new model since I last saw it for sale. I can buy the Bridge and a 1394 card, and a Datavideo Time Base Corrector and still pay less than a DV500. I already own Premiere 6, so I was not interested in having to buy it again with DV.now AV. I hope this way I can capture VHS to DV without any problems and import DV with 1394 card.
Not trying to steer anyone away from Fast/Dazzle as I really like the card (even though I recently sold it.) But Canopus have just announced their Analog>DV>Analog box similar to the Hollywood bridge. It's due out in October, so you may also want to check that one out. MSRP $300.
I believe I saw some info and pics of it at http://www.abcdv.com

Oh, also, I would never have sold my DV Now.AV to buy a Matrox RT2500, or Pinnacle DV 500+. The only worthy real time card for me to upgrade to was the Canopus DVStorm Plus.
Also, here's the url for the Canopus AD>DV: http://www.abcdv.com/editing/canopus/converter.html

JR> not DV500+! Pro-ONE not too!
I had both - I advise, the software is bad, and again only promises, promises...
Sorry, my English is too poor :-(
