Hi guys,

Would it be wiser to go for an AMD X2 4200 or a dual dual opteron 270 machine?

Both with 1Gb Ram (ECC-Registered for the opteron).

Is there any reason (other than price) why you wouldnt want to go for a dual opteron machine?

Is there any new technology concerning either of these systems that would be worth waiting for before building the system?

What kind of power suply would both recquire? Would 580W do it for both?

Thanks for any information.

The 939 socket is just about to be superseded by the new 940 M2 socket with DDR2 support. (Although Now I see rumors that it will be delayed till Q2.)

Apart from having a second CPU fan I cannot see any reason to be limited to the x2. If the cost of two Op270s is not a bother then I would get 2gb (1gb per CPU) as a minimum. Also some S940 motherboards are picky with 24 pin ATX PSUs - check the MB specs.
