Does the firewire card that comes with DV.now AV work for other firewire devices such as a card reader?

I bought a Lexar FireWire Digital Film Reader and nothing happens when I plug it into the firewire card (I am running Windows XP Home). No light activity on the reader and no messages that new hardware was found, no new entry under removable devices in My Computer, and no new entry in Device Manager.

This leads me to believe the card reader is bad, but it also seems odd to me that when I plug my camera (Canon Optura) into the firewire port, nothing new shows up in the Device Manager as well. I am still very new with DV.now AV but I can use it to control the camera so the firewire card is working for that.

Does DV.now AV have drivers/settings that prevent the firewire card from working as a normal firewire card?

Unfortunately I have no other firewire computer or firewire devices to help trouble shoot.

thanks for any help

With FastForward installed, some proprietary FF drivers are loadedfor the Dazzle card, and you can't use regular firewire devices with the card (even though there are two f/w connectors). As I've recently found out, though, If you install a second vanilla F/W card in the system, it should cause the standard 1394 driver to load when you boot. Then you'll be able to connect the camera to the Dazzle board for capture, etc. and your reader to the regular F/W card. Takes an extra slot, however.
