Using Ex1 firmware version 1.11 and just got some of the new ATP ProMax 32GB SDHC cards with a MXM Express card. The system requirements on the card packaging said that the EX1 had to be firmware version 1.2 but these cards seem to be working fine after a test record.

I was going to update the firmware but the Sony Maintenance section of there website seems to be down until 7th Sept.

Anyone else using these new cards with version 1.11 on their EX1's??

Thanks

Hi Cameraboy.
I believe these cards have had good reviews, I however tried a 16gb ATP and constantly got the restore media message. I was probably unlucky. I do believe it to be a good card. Its always difficult asking such a question, my advise has always been, try a certain make of card, test it to its limits, and once you are happy with that brand, and confident in your own mind with its reliability, stick with it. Quite a few people, particularly on US forums have quite a go at Transcend cards, I have been using both class 6 and class 10 Transcends for over a year in my EX1, and more lately with my TM900 and Sony HX9. The cards have never missed a beat. I see no reason to change brands. As I say it really is a matter of finding something that you are happy and confident with and go with your chosen brand. With firmware 1.20 and above I wouldnt see any problem using ATP, Sandisk or Transcend cards. Whichever you decide on, record on it until its full, and play it back 2 or 3 times before you use it on any paying work. All cards/media can, and probably will fail at some point, even SxS cards can and have failed. We cant get the spanners out and fix it, its simply a case of having to trust current technology.

Hi

The cards have got good reviews and are the way forward (I think) but my question was regarding the firmware version of the EX1 because the EX1 I'm using has the firmware v1.11 BUT the ATP cards suggested at least 1.2 but I have recorded onto the card successfully using the 1.11

I would update the firmware. 1.20 and the newer 1.25 have some major compatability / reliability benefits regarding the use of SDHC cards in the EX1. Its quite straightforward to do.
