...Disaster...My wee Canon G9 camera has packed in, stopped working, gave up the ghost.
I picked it up from the kitchen worktop and switched it on as I did so. As I turned away, the camera strap hooked onto a drawer handle and as a result, the camera was whipped out of my hand. It hit the floor with a hefty thump and with the lens extended.
And that was that.
The lens is now permanently extended and it can be heard clicking and making a noise when the camera tries to switch on.
I'm saddened because I really liked that camera with all its knobs and buttons.

Hi Robert, can you claim on your home contents insurance? it's worth a try.
We used to use a company called Clifton Tech(nical?) to fix still cameras.
Althoughfear that parts and labour will mean that a far better camera can be had for the cost of the repair,
I've found a company called Camera Repair Direct who have given an estimate of £66. On further inspection, if the
repair will cost more that the estimate, they will phone me. If I decide against a repair then it will simply cost me the price of the return postage.

Got an email saying that my camera has been repaired.
I have paid the £66 via telephone and now awaiting the camera's arrival.
A used Canon G9 would have cost anything between £120 and £200. A newer model about £350

Camera arrived this afternoon and I have taken lots of test shots with lots of switching on and off.
Everything seems to be working well.
