It seems that my Maxtor 250gb HD has a problem. I use W2000 whilst loading up a project it suddenly decided to stop working. On reboot the activity light still runs and the power light remains lit.W2000 now sees this as a local disk at 0 bytes both in firewire and USB. In disk management it correctly reports its size and is healthy & active the box is shaded though. I cannot access any data on it and comes back with the message corrupted and unreadable. I do get the option to re format in management but since there are some un backed up projects in there, I need to recover what I can first. Help !!

I recently managed to recover the bulk of the files from a 120 GB firewire disk That I had formatted in error, using a free download of PCI File Recovery.

I got it from:

Maxtor problems

Not that this is any help but I thought I'd let you know that my Maxtor one touch II 25oGb drive screwed up two times now. Doing editing in Liquid edition and source and timeline screens went multi colour pixelated before my PC told me the drive was corrupt and inaccessible.

One more hit and it goes back. I talked to the support guys today who claim it is probably the software that is corrupting the drive. This is NOT the opinion of other Editing software users who tell me it is probably a faulty drive. Since I bought the Maxtor for PC backup as well I am not chuffed.

Now buying a Lacie 250gb drive to bacup the backup!!

I've just bought the 300gig Maxtor II one touch firewire/USB2 combo...

I'm very please with the design, and I'm pleased with the speed etc... I am only using it to releave some space on my 2x 120gig IceCube editing HDD's

I was about to order another one as I liked it so much (and give the 2x120gig to my children for their iPod mp3collections) when I came accross this thread....

any other problems from users?

After a couple of days the PC inspector software detected a few avi`s including a couple which puzzles me as they are the adobe countdown and Adobe`s demo cyclists movie both of which should not be on there. I have had the drive for over two years and this is the first time it`s gone. S*** happens. I cannot use what has been retrieved and resigned myslef to a re edit with a couple of projects and getting the return of DVD previews on others. At least my memory is good. My advice to all is don`t trust the HD for archive make a hardcopy too. I am going to from now on.

Hi John
Went to an e-networking do last night with local chamber of commerce.
There were some guys who specialise in data recovery.
If you are in Bedfordshire area I can find out there details for you - but I'm sure you have similar service locally and you have thought of this already.

Dave.

One option is to open up the firewire case, and install the Drive directly in the PC. I had constant problems with Win2k until I upgraded to XPro. You might try it with another PC, also check the cables and the connectors
