I've bought a third hard drive but already have all 4 channels on the standard IDE controllers used up.

I am considering putting my boot drive on the RAID controller in IDE mode.

I have this nervy feeling that if I do this then I may screw up the OS (XP) which i don't want to do.

Anybody else running this sort of config ?

I use a GA-7DXR here and wonder why you particularly want the boot drive on the Promise controller? I use a couple of hard drives on the Primary IDE, one of which is the boot drive, a DVD-writer and a DVD-ROM on the secondary IDE and the remaining hard drives on the Promise controller (in IDE mode). I have no problems with this configuration.

Hi Chris

With the Promise controller supporting ATA133 I thought it would be best to add my ATA133 boot drive on this controller but I will experiment.

Thanks for the input

Interestingly found that although I added the third drive to the RAID controller in ATA mode, XP did not instantly ecognise it and had to go into disk management and create it as a Dynamic drive.

Works fine but wasn't expecting it
