Staples have been "clearing" some laptop stock - didn't take note of the exact reason but is was a company wide head office instruction of some kind.

I've just picked up an HP laptop 17" wide-screen, 1.8Ghz Core Duo Centrino, 1GB RAM, 256MB Nvidia graphics, 100GB drive and decent speakers £809.00

It was marked up at £899, the display model was the only one available - I asked for 10% off and got it.

Staples do a 12 months nothing down interest free option too (deferred at 29% if you don't pay up!) - even if you pay it off next week you still get consumer credit act protection.

They have a few different models marked with clearance - if it really does mean clearance (like mine seemed to) then you could push for a further discount and/or freebies.

It does DVD-RAM too!

Edit > Had a play & it rendered 52 minutes of NTSC MS DV AVI to PAL DVD VOB set (Procoder 2 mastering quality) in 53 minutes.

Did a quick check how fast it would do NTSC DV to PAL DV with PC2 - it worked out 2x real-time. i.e. 10 minutes takes 5 minutes to convert.

Discovered a vacant HDD bay under the cover - I think it's laptop flavour SATA :D

This one's a keeper.
