Here's an excerpt from Beyond the Pain: The Vicki Nixon Story, a new documentary that I have been working on about the retirement of a female 20 year pro bodybuilding veteran. I don't think it's my best work, but it's passable.

Now here's the disheartening thing...it's quickly becoming my most popular video on Youtube!! Just because it's a woman! In one day it got more hits (over 5000) than my RTB2 trailer did in 7 months! Most of the clips it has beaten are far superior (IMO) and much more interesting than this one and yet simply because it's a woman flexing her muscles it's getting more attention than all of them!!
I'm not naive, I know sex sells, but I don't think the clip is particularly sexy and yet...is this the state of internet viewership, where something like this goes almost viral while pieces that are much better constructed (from an editing and storytelling point of view) go largely ignored?
Hi MIke - Nicely put together. There's something about a strong woman that mystifies most men.
p.s. 4900 of those hits were mine :)
Should be in a competition to find the most repugnant unfeminine female
Good clip Mike.
Nothing really sexy about it, so I guess it may just be that most viewers were genuinely interested and not wanting to get their 'jollies'. :D
To quote an old saying from up here, "imagine going home to her with a shilling short in your pay"
Harry
Fergie's opinion notwithstanding, the Vicki clip has soared to the top of my Youtube popularity list with 30,823 views in one month! (Its closest rival has only 23,000 after 6 months.) Not viral by any stretch of the imagination, but still a lot for what I thought was unusual subject matter.
Last week, as a joke and an experiment in the power of women on the internet, I decided to post this rather ordinary clip of a friend of my brother's working out in the gym.

Although Tess is an attractive woman, there's not much to the clip as you can see. Not much content, no sexy outfits. I gave it no fanfare, made no posts on any boards just to see what it would do on its own.
Within days it had gotten about 1500 views and I was contacted by the webmaster of http://diymuscle.com/, a site specializing in this kind of video. He offered to pay me very well for more footage like this. It seems that this kind of thing is VERY popular among a certain audience! All I have to do is shoot Tess working out and posing and send him the tapes! That's easy money for someone like me who is already familiar with shooting this kind of material for my own documentaries. This could be a very corrupting influence on me! ;-)
go for it! but make sure the 'models' are fully-informed
You do have to take into account that the popularity of Tessy's arm workout can be partly accounted for by the people who watched the other video clicking through to your YouTube page. Wonder if arm workout would have been so popular if it had been posted from a new account without any sister videos

Not only will they be informed but compensated as well! The requirements for the website shoot are lengthy and it will take two sessions to get it all.
That's a very good point! I may try making a new account for another clip.
Something these numbers don't tell us is how many people LIKED the clip enough to watch it through to the end. For all I know the Youtubers might be clicking on the video based on the name of the clip, then quickly tuning away once they find that it is not to their liking. A count of how many made it to the end might also be useful.
