I have sent 2 e-mails to Intel to find out what DMA level my INTEL motherboard type SE 440 BX-2 is capable of without a reply. Is it 33 , 66 , or 100.? Do I have to get a new motherboard to support my new IBM DMA 100 Hard drive or is it possible to upgrade with new software.? From previous message board query I guess it is running at 33.

Intel has ALL the info you need on its website at:
http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/se440bx/

Here is a bit that I lifted from that page:

Will my ATA-66 hard drive work on the Intel® SE440BX motherboard?

The IDE controller integrated into the SE440BX motherboard supports Ultra DMA modes 0,1 and 2. Ultra DMA mode 2, also known as ATA-33 or Ultra DMA 33, is the highest speed transfer mode supported by the SE440BX. The motherboard hardware cannot support the maximum transfer rate of the ATA-66 drives. A drive that complies with the ATA-66 specification will run timings up to Ultra ATA-33 on the Intel® SE440BX motherboard. Please refer to the Technical Product Specification and the Motherboard Specification Update for more complete details on the various transfer modes.
