memory parity

I'm looking to double my memory from
512Mb to 1GB DDR RAM- Checking suppliers I've seem:-

Non-Parity CL2.5
Non-Parity CL2

Can anyone tell me what the CL number means & does it matter which one I get ? Is there
any way to find out what is installed in the
PC at the moment.
