Hard one this, (for me anyway) as i think there could be possible answers, so am after suggestions please.

I run a 1.3DDR Athlon,
Tower Case 300w PSU
ATX Epox EP8K7A+ Mainboard
512 DDR Sdram Pc2100
40Gb (C) Ata100/7200 system (c) drive windowsME
2x30Gb (D video drive) ata/100/7200 (raid 0)
Geforce 3 (leadtec)64Mb DDR Graphix
Creative Platinum (live drive2) sound
NIC card for telewest broadband
Canopus Storm Card (with hardware encoder)
OHCI firewire card.

Also,
Floppy 1.44
Plextor ide x16 CDR-RW
Pioneer DVD-CDROM Drive
Pioneer A03 Drive
Creative LiveDrive (frontbay).

Recently i have added the storm card, and software, and unfortunatly other software, (all legal"Newly Purchased") just makes illimination harder,
Everything was recognised programmes working correctly, until a few days later my mouse "Freezes" (the pointer) does not matter how much i move it, it will not move.
(have tried another ps2 mouse still happens)

Rebooting the system sometimes unlocks it sometimes i have to comeback and try later and heypresto alright again, (for a while)

I have reformatted (c) and it still happened again before i had loaded any software (other than drivers for hardware) so do not think it is a "software prob, as its working now, also have Antivirus and firewall protection.

Could it be one of the following?
Overheating (some pretty powerful pci cards on mainboard ? I have towercase could you recommend "extra casefans" and where should they be put? no obvious place at front of case? but above power switch and psu fan two grills (side by side) looks like they are marked with circles are they for "cutouts for fans"

PSU?
The tower case/system came from Compute it" 300Watt psu as standard, should i upgrade to perhaps 431 "enermex"?

Could it just be the ps2 port playing up?
I plan to buy a USB Mouse today (see it as the cheapest option)
And if that works, is it possible (at a later date) to put in a replacement ps2 port?

Advice on these things plus others i have missed would be gratefully appreciated, having a system that hangs with a locked mouse does nothing to help trying to get to grips with premeire, and obviously do not wish to keep having this problem.

Kind regards to all.

First I think that your PSU is little small for such a computer.
Is it a AMD recomended ?
I sugest that you try to get a Apruved AMD PSU - 350W and preferd 460W.
There was a post on it not ling time ago but I can't seem to find it

About the Extra Fans.
Defenetly recomended.
If you see a place to fit them into it was probably for it.
In my Mini Tower case there is place for 3 Extra fan's on top of the PSU one in the back and place for another one in the front.
On top of this I have added 6 small fan's in the 5.25 drive bays and a Card fan (the type the you put into a free slot).
Make Noise but work like magic

may seem obvious but when you arrange your fans do so so that a throughflow of air is created, ie suckin at front, blowout at top.

Thanks for the responce, sorry for the delay but takes a while to get to the "shops", have now fitted the "USB" mouse and all seems well, will keep an eye on things as the fault was intermitent, but working fine at the moment.

There has been a thread recently regarding PSU,s and i do know the 431 "enermax" was mentioned, can anyone point me to it?

And as i know absolutely nothing about "extra case fans," can anyone point me in the right direction there as well?
Makes models or just websites?

Do not mind paying a little extra, to get "approved" "quality ones".

Regards to all.

Stuart,
Have you tried looking at AMD's pages for what you need?

Dear Trevor,

Great links thank you for the help, looking more and more like the "Enermax 431W, it may seem like overkill but they also do 550w (enermax) does anyone have any advice on this is bigger better? or is the 431w the way to go,

And still looking for advice on possibilities on "extra" case fans ?

Again regards all.

Thanks for the advice Scuba, really sorry to hear of the trouble, (PSU).

For everyone tho bit of news, i use an Epox EP8K7A+ Mainboard, and have been "informed" by others (not from this forum tho), that Enermax has problems with this Mainboard?

And have been recommended another PSU "Sparkle? 400W", the one problem i see with this is it only has x6 four pin connectors if i use a couple of "Y" splitters is there any hardware in my original post that i should not attatch a "Y" split four pin too?
Or will this not matter?

Kind regards to all.

No real reson not to use a Y splitter except that it dont look good.
Im also dont see any reason for the Enermax not to work....

Get the biggest PSU you can put your hands on.
400W is nice. 600W is Good.
