I thought you may me interested in the system i have just put together for a very small amount that seems to be working very well indeed.
The system is made up as follows.
AMD thunderbird 950Mhz
Abit KT7-Raid Motherboard
128Meg pc133 dram
30gib IBM ata100 drive
ATI 32meg rage graphics board
Nondescript firewire card i picked up for £35.00 pounds!!
Adobe premier 6
Panasonic nvds15 DVIN enabled free of charge using panatest 2

The whole system was put together for well under £900 and is working very well with no problems encountered whatsoever.

Hi Jon,

Thanks for the post; this stuff is always helpful.

Btw you say you have a 'nondescript FireWire adapter, could you please let us know if it does have any branding on it or the packaging it was presented in or at the very least the manufacturer of the controller chips?

If none of this information is easily identifiable (i.e. you have to remove the adapter to look at the controller chips and prefer not to do that, then let us know what Windows recognises it as.

Cheers,

Hello There
Sorry I cant be more precise about what exactly the card is. I have had a look at it and there is not really any defining marks to be seen.
I can tell you however that windows ME reports back simply taht it is a "PCI OHCI COMPLIANT IEEE 1394 Host Controller"

I purchased it from Microdirect (http://www.microdirect.co.uk) It cost me £29.50 + VAT and came complete with a 6 pin to 4pin lead. There were however no instructions or driver disks supplied with it, these were not missed though because windows ME saw the card straight away and installed all the software that I have needed so far.
regards,
Jon.
