The title doesn't explain this very well, but I figured that somebody here will be able to explain what I'm seeing. I expected to be able to answer it myself, but I can't - hence what may well be a stupid question. Please feel free to beat me over the head.
The problem relates to a new plasma tv I've bought - a 50" Samsung, if that's important - connected to sky.
When you look in a video camera viewfinder, with peaking turned on, as hard, contrasty edges go in and out of focus, they sort of peak and highlight - a very handy feature I've always thought for checking focus. However, I get this exact same effect watching some channels on the new screen. Rather sad, but I spend a fair bit of time watching the various discovery channels - and this weird focus sharpening type effect is often seem in the background, or as in today's one that prompted this post, on a man's black shirt with white stripes and the edges of a railway line in Yorkshire.
The old LCD TV I had never showed these strange artefacts, but the new one does. I'm really impressed with the definition and general picture quality - so what's with the strange edge effects?
Perhaps I should already know the answer, but to be honest, I don't.
I just don't like knowing what is going on!!

Is there a "sharpness" or "enhancement" user-adjustable setting on the TV? There often is. And it's often set too high straight from the factory!
It may also depend on the connections between the boxes.
If scart , use RGB
Indeed there was! Buried in the advanced settings - there was an edge enhancement - turned on!
Thanks for that, most appreciated.
