Here's the new dustproof and water resistant Sony compact (well, compact-ish). Looks like a serious piece of hardware.

So another 1080/50P camera arrives

Video Format
HD: MPEG4-AVC/H.264 AVCHD format compatible (1080/50p: original format)

wake up and smell the coffee, 1080/50P is wonderful...

I think I saw one of those in use by one of the support teams at the British Swimming Championships earlier this month.

You know when you see something and think - hmm - what's that then.... but I never got to any further than that.....

Looks neat.

One image of the camera suggests that the removable battery is fitted internally behind the LCD panel space and has a hatch cover.

Here's a hands-on, real-time look around the camera. The panel controls look as if they've been lifted straight from my NX5, but can it be true that this camera has no switchable internal NDs?

Tom,

Your link seems to be about the FS100, not the NX70E.

Can anyone advise what SDHC card write speed would be required for the 1080/50p video on this camera? Samsung produce a very robust class 6 SDHC Plus card which I like the sound of (see below). On Amazon it states the write speed is 13MB/second, but I would have thought it was faster than this if class 6. I would be interested in any recommendations as presumably 1080/50p must require a very fast SDHC card to cope with the high data rate. Sorry if this is not the appropriate thread.

Go for class 10. I have been using Transcend class 10 and before that, class 6 for some time in my EX1, 550D and Nex5, all recording 1080. They are the same price as class 6, and will give you a little more headroom. Some will reccomend others, its simply a case of finding something that you, personally find reliable, and sticking with it.

Thanks Colin. Trascend class 10 look good value, you can get a 32GB card for under £40 which undercuts the competition by some margin. Obvioulsy, got to make sure it's the genuine article.

Most tend to go for 16 gb cards, to many eggs in one basket etc.

Yes, I can understand that approach and I would certainly be wary of relying on the built-in 96gb and would only use it as a last resort. However, I reckon 32GB would cover you for a couple of hours of shooting at 1080/50. I would tend to worry about how much time I had left with a 16GB card and fear getting caught out.

lowlight, The highest quality mode seems to use the same data rates as my TM700, and I can get away with a good quality Class 4 SDHC card...... but I'm with Colin on this, just use the Class 10 , there's no real reason not to.....
dave

Edited ps ....the Sony spec. for the NX70 is Class 4 or faster.....

Thanks Dave. Yes, I agree, sounds like class 10 is the sensible card to go for.
