Considering upgrading my existing PC to this one from PC Specialist with a few specifications of my choice. My present one, a 3GHz dual core struggles with HDV, AVCHD and MPEG files. Any comments re the spec's?

Whoops forgot to mention that. At the moment I am editing with Premiere CS3 and know that I will have to upgrade to CS5.5 or if released CS6. Don't intend changing the editing system since I have been using Premiere since it needed a whizz bang 60MHz processor to work properly

I would strongly encourage the upgrade to Premiere CS5.5 or CS6 (when announced), and to go with that upgrade I'd suggest three changes to your specified system:

1. Get a GTX-680 Graphics Card

2. Get a X79 motherboard, which will give full performance for the graphics card (which is what powers much of Premiere's fantastic Mercury Playback Engine) as well as having USB3 and SATAIII

3. Get more and faster hard drives!: Premiere functions best with the footage and the scratch drive on seperate hard drives. Get proper 7200RPM drives, not the "green" 5400RPM ones.

Thanks for that info. Mark. Will check out your 1 & 2 suggestions. Didn't realise that the HD was only 5400 so that has to change. I did not specify any more HD's fitted as I will have a few 500/1TB spare from the outgoing PC that will be used.

Mark, checked out the other graphics card and it will cost an additional £256, and will need a bigger power supply, which is more than 1/2 of my monthly OA pension so don't think that will be on the menu. The MB will also be extra taking the unit to nearly £1600. Tony, that spec. is much similar to mine above, how does it perform?

It can make a DVD from the Edius TL in no time at all.

Harry, Edius and Premiere Pro have very different demands from their hardware. A system that runs Edius well will not necessarily run Premiere Pro CS5.5/6 well.

Your original system specs will work well (aside from the restrictions of that slow HDD). You don't need the GTX680 card, nor the Z69 motherboard. It's just some futureproofing.

Been "dithering" about the upgrade PC and have two further questions to ask.

1. My original spec would come with a 2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 560 Ti graphics card which has 384 Cuda's. There is on offer a 1.25GB Nvidia Geforce GTX 570 graphics card with 480 Cuda's. My question is would it be better with the 570 albeit with 1.25 GB or less Cuda's on the 560 and 2GB?

2. The original MB is not now on offer but now comes with the Intel Z77 chipset. Given I would be using Premiere CS5.5 or CS6 should this chipset be OK?

Does this mean if a "green" drive is advertised as 7200rpm it is only 5400rpm.
