No Audio on Microsoft DV AVI files

Hi All,
I capture DIF files for import to Premiere (6.0) but After Effects can't read DIF files so I have been "transcoding" the edits to AVI files using the Microsoft DV AVI codec.

One day all was well, but the next day for some reason, the audio part of the file was missing. Premiere' "Get Properties for" showed an AVI file with a stereo track but with zero bytes.

I have tried all sorts of different settings in Premiere but nothing works. The Fast DV codec works fine but neither of the Microsoft codecs will give me an audio file. I have downloaded various other codecs off the net but still no audio.

This is a tough one I know, but if anyone has any suggestions I would be very grateful.

Thanks

If it worked on day and not a few days later, something probably changed a setting or driver somewhere. Whihc settng got changed I could not say, but that would be a place to start looking. If you installed some software in the interval, perhaps an update to one of the things that manages to install itself when you are not oooking; e.g., real audio player updates.

Thanks dpalomaki, that is the only thing that makes sense as I hadn't loaded any other software from one day to the next. I think the next stage is to reload W2k and if that still doesn't fix it, re-format the whole drive and start again.
