No sound

I edit using MSP6 on a 1.4 Athlon, 512 Mb DDR, 2 x 40gb HDDs running MS Windows ME.

Everything is fine when editing small (sub 4gb projects) but when I hit the dreaded 4gb file size limit I get problems. One way round the limit is to play out to the DV camera (Panasonic NV-DS38) direct from the timeline.

When I do this everything seems fine. The program renders the transitions, effects, etc and then starts the camera in rec mode, and plays the time-line files. Problem is that it only plays out the video files, there is no sound output, either from the monitor or on subsequent replay.

Previewing the files gives full sound and vision, so the sound files are there.
Is there an output setting, selecting vision, sound or both?

Any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks in advance.

Strange?

Have you disabled the Aa Ab audio tracks?

What are your project settings?

Thanks for the suggestions John.
The project settings are as DV (PAL 48 KHz), i.e.
PAL (25fps)
Field Order A
Overlay tracks (3)
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits 720 x 576 25 fps
DV video encoder type 1
PCM 48,000 Hz 16 bit stereo

As for disabling Aa and Ab as far as I know they are not disabled. At least I have not intentionally disabled them, but how do I check?

Thanks again.

If you see a Green Button on the left of the track it's enabled

A Red button means the track is disabled.

I have duplicated your problem by disabling the audio track.

Your project settings are fine.

Dear John,
I have checked and yes, the button on the left is green, not red, on each of the audio tracks.

I have also re-installed MSP6.

After installing the program I downloaded (again) Ulead's update 6.0.0.2 and installed it.

There is a note saying 'after you capture video from a DV camcorder, the audio section may need to be re-rendered'. Do you think that this may have some bearing? And if so, how do I re-render the audio files?

As I said earlier, the files in question are OK when rendered as part of an .AVI file, the problem only starts when I try to play them out directly from the timeline.

The files that started this investigation were originally recorded on a Video8 camcorder and then imported to the computer using my Panasonic NVds38 as an A-D convertor. Since then I have done tests using DV-originated files with the same result.

Thanks again, John, for using your valuable time to help me sort out this niggling problem.
