Hi everyone,
Just bought a maxton 400Gb external drive, used via usb. The problem I have is that when I boot windows xp up, it hangs and reports that NTLDR is missing and asks me to reboot via CTRL, ALT, DEL keys. If I unplug the external drive the computer always boot s up ok. So i then plug the drive in and all works fine. Does anyone know a work around so I can boot my computer up with the Maxton drive still connected via the usb , and stop the NTLDR missing problem,
Kind regards for any help,
Bill Oddie.

Look in the BIOS for a boot device order/preferences - make sure BOOT from USB is either off or lower down the list that everything else.

Gavin, silly question but where do I look to find the BIOS set up?
Thanks, Bill Oddie.

Usually the Delete key during early boot, occasionally F2 key (Compaq)

Had a look in BIOS, but did not find anything which gave me the option of the computer not looking at USB ports on boot up. Found 3 inch floppy, cd readers but not usb. Any further help or ideas would be a great help. Perhaps the usb ports are called by another name in BIOS?
Kind regards,
Bill Oddie.

Sorry bit of a late response. Don't know if you have found a solution but the NTLDR is missing is a common problem and has quite a few causes if you search on google with 'NTLDR is missing' there are shed loads of solutions to this problem, you will probably find your answer there.
