PCI Slots?

Hi all,

I currently use an Athlon system, running on a ATX Epox EP8KA+ Mainboard, at present, in the pci slots i have
Geforce3 Graphix card, (AGP Slot)

Creative Platinum soundcard
OHCI Firewire card
Speakerphone/fax modem
NIC card for Broadband
+ Card with x2 extra usb ports

Im thinking of trying a DV Card
Is it better to leave everything else alone, or would it be better to remove..

OHCI card (if i upgrade to DV Card and software)
Modem (as i always use the broadband NIC card.

Will this improve air circulation?
and finally if i remove pci cards from their current slots and move them about (trying to keep good circulation to the Geforce3 graphix) if i put them "back" in different slots will this cause a problem, (does the computer see and reserve a slot"pci") or will it just see the card is back and doesn,t matter its in a different slot.

PS, if the opinion is to remove "not required PCI cards" should i also remove/delete info connected to them under "device manager" "remove"?

I run windows ME, AMD 761.

Kind regards.

Stuart,

A lot of quetions to answer. My response is as follows:

1) REMOVE Modem (as i always use the broadband NIC card.

2 )"Will this improve air circulation?" - NOT NECESSARILY

3) " and finally if i remove pci cards from their current slots and move them about (trying to keep good circulation to the Geforce3 graphix) if i put them "back" in different slots will this cause a problem, (does the computer see and reserve a slot"pci") or will it just see the card is back and doesn,t matter its in a different slot." DEPENDS ON YOUR MOBO. I HAVE JUST BUILT A SYSTEM FOR A FRIEND USiNG A COMATE BOARD AND DURON 750 PROCESSOR AND FOUND TO MY HORROR THAT THE ONLY WAY I COULD GET THE GRAPHICS CARD AND SCSI CARD NOT TO CONFLICT WITH EACH OTHER WAS TO MOVE THE SCSI AND MODEM CARDS AROUND! BEWARE

"PS, if the opinion is to remove "not required PCI cards" should i also remove/delete info connected to them under "device manager" "remove"?" - YES

"I run windows ME, AMD 761." WHY WIN/ME AND NOT WIN2K?

Cheers

WB

Thanks for the reply,

Why ME? it came preloaded, and at the time DV Editing was on the "horizon" so to speak, so didn,t seem important, now its just the cost of the upgrade.

Kind regards.

Stuart.
