Further to davergrange's posting, which motherboard and AMD processor would you recommend for use with a Pinnacle DV500?

I see Asus, Abit and Gigabyte boards being alternately being commended and condemned and would like your opinion on the matter before spending my hard-earned cash.

TIA

I have just bought a DV500 from Smart DV. I was advised to get an Asus A7M266 m/board as this worked with the DV500.
I did, and it worked first time. No dropped frames and no sync problems even on 1 hour clips. I am using win2k sp2. The AV drive is NTFS format. I don`t think there are any BIOS adjustments that have to be made, but if there is, will someone please say.

One mistake I made was not to get a 266 fsb Athlon. I am using a 1Gig with 256 meg DDR ram.
Smart DV are Pinnacle agents, and will give advice. So far I have no complaints.

Buy one and happy editing.

Thanks for the reply - i had looked at the Asus but it has only two Dimm slots and I was hoping for at least three and minimum of 5 PCI ( figure the more there are less likeley the chances of IRQ conflicts )..

And while I think of it should I be looking at Athlon or Duron processors?

Athlon 1.4 ddr's are really cheap! you can pick one of these up for about £105 - £110.

512mb of DDR ram will set you back about £55-£70..

1.3 DDR athlons are only £10 cheaper than their 1.4 brothers..... makes more sense to spend the extra £10!

re the number of PCI slots

As there are normally only 4 IRQs available for all the PCI cards (5, 9, 10 and 11) having more PCI slots does not reduce the number of IRQ conflicts (in some respects it increases them as you tend to think 'I have a PCI slot free and I realy fancy a XXX'!)

Hi,

I have x2 Epox Mainboards,
EP8K7A 1.4 Tbird
EP8K7A+ 1.3 Athlon

Have not had any problems with either of them, and are both fully compatable (761 chipset) with Canopus products,

And have x4 ide controllers.

Kind regards
Regards all.
