Hi, I have pretty much 99.9% decided to go for a sony Z1.

Been looking at prestons etc online and ebay but decided to go with a known dealer.

Any recommendations for a decent dealer with good after sales service?

I will be buying a z1, sennheiser radio kit and vinten pro 5 all together possibly and maybe if my church approves the budget a fx1 as well. Are dealers likely to cut the price if you haggle or do they stick to the price they advertise? If they do shift a little does anyone have any advice?

Thanks. Michael.

Hi Michael
I think you will find that H Prestons are pretty well known on this forum and have a good name as regards service and price.

Have another look on the net to give you an idea of prices and pick say three with phone contacts and give them a ring but first make sure you have the go ahead to include the FX1 and also check that the dealers you have picked out can supply everything.

Dealers will haggle and i've found if willing to buy at the time you can get them to knock a bit extra of,or ask them to include extras like delivery, tapes, batteries.

Buying from a authorised dealer will ensure you get the 2 year Silver warranty.

Regards
Charles

Anytime Michael - it can't be easy making assessments when you are distant from most of the 'toy shops' which are frequently around London.

I emailed the guy who had 2 * Z1E for sale - both now sold sorry.

Very pleased to read that your new equipment is on its way. I am a few weeks behind you in buying similar kit and was thinking of visiting the Broadcast Show in a couple of weeks to see if Prestons (or others) were repeating the ‘show only offers’ along the lines of those at the Video Forum earlier this year. So do tell; what did you buy, from whom and for how much? Which supplier do you recommend? I

I’d be grateful for any advice or recommendations.

I narrowed it down by price and by who was offering the sony silver warranty rather than their own. It came down to Prestons and ProAv. I rang ProAv first but Neill was with a customer and they said they would ring back. Rang Prestons and they quoted £3400 plus £10 delivery to Northern Ireland. I asked for something off it (even the postage would have satisfied me) but they wouldn't budge. Proav did the same price though questioned the postage at only £10. Neil was very pleasant and took the postage of it.

Ended up with next day delivery to here, just outside Belfast, £3407

I'll post again when it arrives.

When is the Broadcast Show, I might fancy a wee trip across the water to have a nosey and maybe even buy some gadgets :)

There aren't generally "things to buy" at the production show. It's more upmarket and aimed at securing large orders from companies.

Good for a look though

It's 20th-22nd June at earl's court. Called the Broadcast show now. You need to register in advance or it's £20 on the door

Ok, the video forum is the place for that I gather. I'll probably not bother because I'd have to fly to heathrow and get the tube and all.

I'll probably just wait til next year. Unfortunatley I can't seem to find anything like that in Northern Ireland. Will hopefully join a club or association if I can find one.

Michael.

(courier came while I was out, now I have to wait until 5.30pm to get the camera) :(

Dave M beat me to it but more info can be found here about Broadcast Live for those who have not picked up on it yet. I registered a while ago so as to avoid the threatened entry fee.

I am concerned by Dave M's advice about the targets of the exhibitors but I am hoping that there will be something I can learn whilst visiting the show (- even if it is not to visit next year!). I made some enquiries and I am told Prestons will be exhibiting. I was hopeful there may be some other reputable suppliers in attendance as well.

I guess you will be playing with the goodies delivered by the courier if they have turned up by now!

I just got it! Love it so far. Taking my time to spread the contents all over the living room and even reading the manual. Very impressed so far and my mum is fancinated on how she can see the hairs on my dads nose. lol

Hi all, new boy here.
I just wanted to add my support on this thread for videogear.co.uk . I am a professional photographer and new to videography so I wanted to ask lots of questions before I parted with my money, I visited videogear and was very patiently and expertly advised (not sold to) by them. After going through a whole range of cameras and having the pros and cons of each explained for my requirements, I am happy that I came away with the right tool for the job.
