Hi all

Have just fitted Maxtor SATA HD for additional storage as all of my IDE channels are used ie:2 harddrives and 2 dvd drives.
Have enabled SATA in bios, have installed drive using Maxblast4 software, the
drive is recognised in device manager, windows recogises the drive as it appears within my computer but when I click on the drive it will not open and enable me to store files on it.

M/B is Chaintech 9PJL Apogee
SATA drive is Maxtor diamondmax 10
Am using Win XP Pro

Could one of you nice chaps throw some light on this for me.

Cheers

I think it's something like this

Settings
Control Panel
Administrative Tools
Computer Management
Storage
Disk Management
Find the drive & Format it (Right Click)

Regards

Hello Chaps
Thanks for the replies, sorry I probably didn't explain very well, but I have formatted the drive first using Maxblast 4 which reports that the drive is ready for use when this didn't work I formatted it via windows device manager. This is the first SATA drive that I have fitted does anyone think its a driver problem?.
Device manager reports that the driver is from Microsoft and is dated 2001 but I didn't think SATA had been around that long.

Cheers

Thanks Harlequin

I already have the latest m/b drivers installed, keeping everthing updated is some thing I do on a regular basis.

The good news is it is now working perfectly, don,t ask me how or why I really havn,t got a clue after a few reboots and changing the bios settings from enhanced for auto and then back again to enhanced it just started working great.

So many thanks to those people who responded.

Cheers
Roger
