I received the following email from ? Apple for some thing I did'nt order, has anyone advice how to respond and cancel.
I have also received a text message (giff gaff service provider) which says FreeMsg: use code xxxxx to verify your subscription of £4.50 per week.

Dear Customer ,

Your Apple Email ID, was used to purchase "Nathalie - The best of Julio Iglesias" (19,99 GBP)
from the iTunes Store on a Apple Device that had not previously been associated with you.

If you made this purchase, you can ignore this email and wait for the PDF confirmation.
It was only sent to alert you in case you did not make the purchase yourself.

I'm a bit lost on this one and would value assistance.   Tony C.

Since I posted the above topic I have contacted Apple direct and they have confirmed that there are no charges raised against my account They believe that the sting is in the section -

"To issue a refund we need you to confirm your details" .

Quite right Tony

Never follow a email link to a site

A old friend of mine was scammed last week re: a Tax refund emiail
Thankfully she twigged the scam in time and didn't lose any money.

Cheers

I get PayPal scam mail. If they ask you to clink on a link.DON'T . Go direct to the website if you need to, but never use the email links..

Scammers are using all types of main supplier names Ebay,Amazon, main stream banks etc - Trust no-one and just delete emails like this. When you log into your suppliers main site, any urgent messages will be there and genuine.

Re: scam - advice needed please.

I recently advertised some household goods for sale on several free websites I then had a so called interested buyer who asked what my best price was, which I said was the advertised price, I then had the following email which for some unknown reason rang warning bells! Maybe I`m just paranoid but it doesn`t quite ring right!

Your asking price is quite reasonable & affordable considering others I've seen lately, I'll take it. I won't be able to come for the pick up due to my work. I'll arrange for pick up and delivery with a shipping agent.I'll make the payment through PayPal for the safety of both of us. I'll need your name, the pickup address & your paypal email address for the payment. If you don't have paypal account It's very easy and secured just visit www.paypal.co.uk and click on signup Sgt.Mark ,<[_%£. (I have disguised his surname)

Best Regard
Sgt.Mark <;_5£ (Surname disguised by me).

Later today I had the identical first response to his original contact so am I wrong to be suspicious?

I get loads of those emails where they enclose an attachment - which the email content suggests you need to read - all scams, until I got one yesterday from a company I do occasional business with - that used the same font and layout, with the attachment at the bottom. I investigated and it was genuine. I wondered how many people saw the format, and simply deleted it? Actually a nice little marketing offer. I bet they are surprised the takeup is very low!

I've also had them where an 'Invoice attached' is used. A quick look at properties can identify if this is from a known supplier/client source - If not = Bin!

I always view dodgy looking emails in properties - message source in  Windows Live Mail, not so easy or intuitive for my scammed friend using MS Outlook http://www.msoutlook.info/question/450

I posted a question about this text on the GiggGaff website (community) and the general opinion was that it should be deleted as a scam, and the number should be blocked if possible.

The difference here is that I am not being asked to follow any link or download etc! It was a reply via "Loot" an online buying & selling site where you can dispose of un-wanted goods, in this case, an induction hob. The possible buyer responded through Loot to negiate the price, it was then that he sent a further email re his shipping agent would collect once he had paid on paypal as owing to the nature of his work he could not collect! I`ve since had a similar enq from "Friday Ad" another advertising site, this time from an "Emily" who offered £20 more than my asking price so that she wouldn`t lose the item but again due to the nature of her work would have her agent collect it! I replied in both instances saying cash on collection or are trying to scam me! No reply from either of them. On the face of it, they are genuine enquiries but the way that they are written leads me to believe otherwise!

I advertise my 2 berth caravan for sale last year.  I received an offer from someone who wanted to pay via PayPal. Suspecting a scam I asked why he would buy the caravan withoiut seeing it first and he claimed that the distance was the problem, he being down south in England. My reply was that he would have to come and collect it anyway so the distance didn't matter and if he wanted he could send a Bankers Order as I was not (I am) a member of PayPal.  He was adamant that he wanted to pay via this medium but no way was I going to be lured into a potential scam.  I received an- e-mail some days later from the organisation I had used for the advert warning me that this gentleman was indeed trying to scam me and not to have any dealings with him.  Difficult to sell/buy something now-a-days.

Re: scam - advice needed please.

I got a Facebook message from a guy who used to work for me, telling me he was in Turkey and had been mugged with his wife. Conversation went back and forth and then he asked me if I could pay his hotel bill for him. Suspecting a scam, I said of course, and asked him for the hotels bank details. He said it needed to be sent by Western Union (odd for a Brit, and of course, totally insecure). So I left it ten minutes and then said I'd done it, but paid the money into his work account , where he could draw off it over the phone at his hotel with his usual password. End of messages. Turned out they stole his mobile and were doing it to everyone in the phone book! I wonder if others fell for it? Facebook annoyingly removed the text conversation from my phone - didn't know the messages were not stored on the phone, but on the net, then closed his account!

I knew it wasn't him because he always, always insults me jokingly and this was far too polite!

Heads Up

I've just received a nice eMail from Microsoft wink offering me a 1 year free license for Office 365 so I thought I would share it with the forum since it seems such a good offer !!!!! laugh

From eMail address: Microsoft Office 365 Team <office365@anadoluakaryakit.com.tr>

The body of the eMail states:

"You received this message because we update Microsoft services, which applies to several Microsoft products you use.

We perform this update to facilitate the use of our Microsoft products and services, and strengthen their security, also to cover additional Microsoft products and services.

With this update we offer the new Office 365 Business pack for free, you need to update your Outlook Client to reserve your pack now.

If denied this update, you can choose not to use our products and services, and close your account."

If this came from Microsoft then I'm a Dutchman.
