Anybody know where I can get one of these similar to those that are already in place on the Z1. I'd prefer to side mount the external mic instead of on the hot shoe adapter.

i bought one from ebay.

you can get the mount from part supliers but you need an adapter in order for the screen to claer the mount.

they were on ebay for a while but can't find any now, cost me about £40 mind!! not cheap

will try and take a pic of mine fitted.

The best mount for this is the Rycote Softie Mount CCA.

It clamps into the standard camera mic. mount and effectively shockmounts the microphone - available in 3 different diameters:- SH = 19/20mm, MH = 22mm, LH = 25mm.

Works very well.

the problem is the fx1 doesn't have a standard mic mount, that is what BirtyBoy1 is looking for.

although i do like the mount shown. might invest in one

OK - but it *does* have a shoe mount.

In this case the Rycote Multimount v2 should do the job.

If it's too close to the lens, Rycote even do Hot Shoe Extension to shift it to the side (or to mount a mic. and radio receiver, for example) - these are available in 3 or 4 different lengths.

I know but BirtyBoy1 said he does would prefer not to use it as he wants to side mount the mic like on the Z1,

the only way is to get the mount and the required spacer.

i have it fitted and its perfect.

I just got one of these, it fits my EX1 perfect. Also my sennheiser receiver kits on one shoe perfect.

A rode SM3 could then go on the other side.

Depending on how sensitive the mic is you may find that what John showed being the best answer. Certainley using the Sennheiser K66 on anything other that the rubber mount allowed EVERY touch on the camera to be recorded, now you really REALLY don`t want that. Trouble is, from memory those mounts were around £105 :-(

I have a rode SM5 which mounts in the standard mic mount on my cam, it suspends the my ME66 by rubber bands and does a good job of isolating sounds from when handling the cam, the mount was about £25.
The SM3 is the same but just mounts in the hotshoe, or one of the hotshoes on the double bracket.

does that SM5 give enough clearance for your dead cat not to enter frame?

been looking at the CCA, but already got a rycote softie with a pistol grip - don't want to buy a CCA for 68 quid when this might do the job

Yes just about.
I slide the suspension mount in from the rear the the mic into the front of the suspension mount. (Another reason why i wish we could post pics on this otherwise excellent forum.)
With the double bracket and the SM3 it should easily clear the lens.

OK - get the Rycote Multimount v2 and Hot Shoe Extender as I suggested - but put the Multimount upside-down on the under-side of the Hot Shoe Extender.

It will then be side mounted. :D
