Hi Team,

I remember that some time ago one of our members showed how I could rewire the Sennheiser G2's radio mic so that its output XLR plug could be adapted to feed the tiny 1/8'' mic intput on the Panasonic GH1.  I won't have to mess with transformers and suchlike, will I?

Hi Tom, I believe the output from the G2 AF socket is the same as the G1: Tip = Signal, Sleeve = ground (no ring connection) Make up a lead with stereo plug wired tip & sleeve at G2 end to stereo plug at camera end wired tip & sleeve also but with tip and ring wired together. This will give you the audio on both left and right channels. Make sure that you label the plugs as G2 and camera because it won’t work the other way round! I’m sure Mr Willetts will correct me if I’m wrong.

I am assuming that you have the mains receiver as you say "XLR connector".

This is a balanced output wired:
pin 1 = screen
pin 2 = +ve
pin 3 = -ve

The min-jack for the camera would be stereo - so you wire +ve to both tip and ring and the -ve and screen to the sleeve.

If you have the small pocket receiver, then it comes with a pre-wired lead for this.  The screw jack goes into the receiver and the other into the camera.  This is wired so that the signal is put to both channels.

I think he's talking about the portable receiver, with the XLR cable supplied to go in the mic socket? At least that's how I read it?

I think Anthony thinks the same, as he's given the wiring for the 3.5mm to 3.5mm wired

G2-----------GH1
tip----------tip and ring
sleeve----sleeve

If it's going into a mic. socket - then great care should be taken to make sure that any "plug-in power" is switched OFF - or you will be sending a DC voltage into the output amplifier of the receiver.
