Below is a quiz written by Einstein last century. He said that 98% of the people in the world would not be able to solve the quiz. Are you among the 2%?

There is a real answer; there are no catches!

Facts

1. There are 5 houses in 5 different colours.
2. In each house lives a person with a different nationality.
3. The 5 owners drink a certain beverage, smoke a certain brand of cigar and keep a certain pet.
4. No owners have the same pet, smoke the same brand of cigar or drink the same beverage.

The question that you need to answer is ‘Who has the FISH as a pet?’

Hints

 The Brit lives in the red house
 The Swede keeps dogs as pets
 The Dane drinks tea
 The green house is on the left of the white house
 The owner of the green house drinks coffee
 The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds
 The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhill
 The man living in the centre house drinks milk
 The Norwegian lives in the first house
 The man who smokes Blend lives next to the man who keeps cats
 The man who keeps horses lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill
 The owner who smokes Blue Master drinks beer
 The German smokes Prince
 The Norwegian lives next to the blue house
 The man who smokes Blend has a neighbour who drinks water

GOOD LUCK

Germans don't smoke Prince cigarettes, so it must be the german who keeps the fish as a pet!

Is that one of those new OHCI-compatible fish or just a standard Type-2 fish with the 2GB limit?

The German is the correct answer but not because Germans don't smoke Prince. The arrangement is as follows:

House 1
Yellow House
Norwegian
Dunhill
Water
Cats

House 2
Blue House
Dane
Blend
Tea
Horses

House 3 (Centre)
Red House
British
Pall Mall
Milk
Birds

House 4
Green House
German
Prince
Coffee
"FISH"

House 5
White House
Swede
Blue Master
Beer
Dogs

It took 12 minutes 41 seconds to work it out, guess I'm in the top 2% of world along with the other 98% that would have got it anyway as it wasn't that hard.

Lui,

What are you trying to say? Germans do smoke Prince????? I thought this was a danish brand, only smoked by scandinavians....

This type of problems I solve for a dayjob. I know, I can be very pathetic.

Hendrik, we let you get away with a lot, because we feel sorry for you being a Belgian, but you are going to have explain that comment!

Oh, has everyone seen the cartoon of Hendrik over on the www.punkband.tv site - it really is VERY realistic (well, very recognisable, any way). Is there no end to the Belgian's talents?

Click on "The Team" icon to see the pic.

Apparently, the only reason why John Ferrick isn't up there, too, in the hall of shame, is because he didn't do a cartoon of himself.

Anyone able to contribute one so that the gallery is complete?

How can I explain? There are many words I can use: Francophone, smart and funny chipmunk, luckily-not-a-videographer and rosegarden. But none describe acurately the intense emotion

You're invited to the marriage, definitely. Hell I need some cheapo wedding shooters anyway and who else is up to that job than the complete editorial staff of CV. Or am I mistakingly wrong about this one?

The main course is a bacon buffet, with warm beers and Prince cigarettes (STAY on topic! Stay on topic *angst-driven Star Wars voice-over*)

Of course all 3328 bulletin board users are invited to donate a little gift on my acount

I am not saying whether they do or not, I am just saying that although The German is the right answer, the reasoning you gave behind it was incorrect as you will see from my post if you compare the hints with my conclusion.

No, not a trick question Pierluigi. He wants a job and he's provoking responses all over the board from some very impressive members.
He'll either get the job or get rumbled any how 10 out of 10 for effort.

Lui,

Sorry for the dry wit about germans and Prince cigarettes. It must be a bad, cold day for me.

I came to the same conclusion as you, only after 1 hour and 5 minutes (including a 4 5-minute cigarette break) and not in the record tempo of 12 minutes 40 seconds. Slow-mo!

Did you assume that house 1 was on the left or the right of the row and is the answer the same if you assume otherwise? Or are they in a circle? It took me well over an hour to work it out assuming house 1(the first house) was on the left.

I assumed house 1 to be on the left, as the hints pointed to that fact. I also assumed that the houses were in a row as one of the hints mentioned a centre house, which would only be possible if the houses were in a line.

I seem to have a knack with logic problems and can solve them pretty quickly, of course ask me to balance my cheque book and I'm totally lost.

Agree about the circle and the centre house, I forgot about that! Not sure that it assumes that the first house is on the left(although that is what I did). Anyone care to try it with the first house on the right? I did my logic with the help of a grid diagram like the ones you find in those holiday puzzle books and I cannot face doing it again
