Ordered one of these yesterday from Jessops On-Line as my local store, Southport, only had their display model in stock. Good price, £250 inclusive of Sony cash back.
Ordered as "Collect at Store", and surprised this morning to receive a text message saying the camera was available to collect from Southport.
Smelling the proverbial long tailed rodent I phoned the store to ask whether this was a boxed, brand new item. Surprise surprise! Or rather unsurprised.
Effectively passing off a second hand item as new in my books. Don't know what the legal position is but Jessops have lost a customer and a bit more of their reputation.
(50p out of this camera so I've been avidly following the TM 900 thread comments about 50p , 50i ,25p etc etc.)

Got mine from Laskys, they had loads of stock. I absolutely love it especially on 1080p
I think the law is that they have to tell you it is a demo unit or manufacturer refurbished if it is repaired or exchanged stock, this is what apple do with their products as they not allowed to sell them as new stock.
I would make them an offer for it saying how unhappy you are to be buying a new item on-line but being given the local shop demo unit and if it is fully warrantied you got an even better bargain.
Stock seems thin on the ground in the UK and I wouldn't be surprised to find other retailers passing off demo kit as "new" to online purchasers.
Hard to believe there was a "High Street Recession" given the responses I've been getting to my question "when WILL you have it in stock then?"
Laskys web pages a bit vague on delivery and I need precision as cannot simply wait in for three or four days in case Parcel Force are going to turn up.

ps sent an "offer" e-mail to Jessops per Gary's suggestion but not holding me breath!
Phone Laskys, I found them extremely helpful
Done and with Laskys. Should be here Tuesday for which I had to pay six quid extra, otherwise next Friday post free.
No doubt will be posting once up and running.
Thanks, "jg",
Ron
Friendliest people I have dealt with in a long while. Suggest you get a couple of spare batteries off of ebay £4.99 each inc P&P

They are not holding stock.
No one is stocking much these days , and those with large amounts of stock , are dumping onto market at whatever price they can get.
Laskys = Comet but cheaper (mostly).
They all do it e.g. Pixmania = DSG
We tend to check them all together with any voucher codes we can find via Money Saving Expert.
Sometimes, not always they (Comet or DSG) manage to undercut Amazon et al by a long way on certain things. You can usually find cheaper + free del. within a few clicks.
I often wonder how Jessops sell anything at. I have yet to find them competitive on ANY item either in the shops or on the web. Every now and then I call in a Jessops store (usually in a holiday town) - listening in on their sales patter is always good for a laugh. Almost as funny as their prices.
£250 inclusive of Sony cash back.
I've seen a few complaints recently where the cash back doesn't seem to have arrived - I think it might have been on the Sony community forums.
Jessops would have been £15.00 cheaper had I fallen for the "display camera as new" trick.
The sales girl at Southport was helpful enough, though she did mis-inform me that there was an additional £40 off via on-line purchase. These people are often let down by their Head Offices and Head Office policies.
Not just retail groups, I'm sure I'm not the only contributor here who's noticed a "less for more" attitude in most pubs for example. Dearer beer and fewer staff. Staffing levels at my local determined by the Head Office, (dis) Spirit Group, computer I'm told.
Will wait and see re the Sony refund.

What SDHC cards can you recommend for video?

Class 6 or 10, Transcend, Sandisk, any known name should be fine. Just as well go for class 10, they are about the same price as class 6 and give you a little more headroom.

I received a letter from Sony last week saying, they were having problems getting the cheques out !!!!!!!!!! but mine would be posted ASAP. (sent the form/receipt etc to them about 5 weeks ago).
Arrived at 8 am on the dot via Parcel Force. No SD card which a bit of a blow as will have to go and get one before checking movie mode. Nothing to say that battery needs charging before use but I'm assuming that this is the case so "on charge".
Hate not having a detailed instruction manual and having to use instead the CD-ROM which hardly a portable solution.
Hate, as always, all the dross shooting modes, embellishments, bells and whistles that come with "consumer" cams. Wish I could simply disable the lot in favour of shutter priority automatic.
No filter screw so no portable ND filters and no easy attachment for "digi-scoping".
Tiny, at least for my fairly large clumsy hands and fingers. Must get a neck strap.
Looking forward to having a bash,
Ron
