Hey Mooblie,

I requested picture profile settings for my ex3 and pmw f3k camcorders.

Now i am using alister's picture profile settings, my director asked me that get soft skintones and pinkish color skin tone and the colors should be rich colours.

Please take a time and get me the settings of two camcorders.

Thanks
Louis

Hey Louis,

Alister's website has lots of useful information on what the various settings in the picture profiles do.

From the information he provides you could work out for yourself how to get a picture close to what your director wants.

Alternatively you could just say to your director "Don't you think it's better to shoot really flat and get the look you want in the grade?".

This.

Something that rarely gets mentioned is that often settings given on the web only work well in certain lighting conditions. The BBC settings that Alan goes into do not adjust the colourmitry of the cameras, just the gamma, knee, and detail settings, I hazard to guess for a very good reason. All cameras, even of the same make and model, have variation in how they look. So the settings for, say Alisters camera may not be as good for your specific camera. It might be a good starting point, but the only way you can set the colour matrix of your camera is to hook it up to a waveform and vectorscope and use a calibrated chart, and thoroughly test under the lighting conditions you will be shooting under.

Far better to shoot flat with the maximum information and grade afterwards. If the director is unwilling or cannot afford a grade then you will have to compromise to a degree.
