Sounds interesting. But can a camera of that size, lens, and chip size really resolve decent high def resolutions?

Well, HDV is less than 2 megapixels - that's very old technology in pocketable still digital cameras now, and there are mobile phones with still cameras that size now.
The fact that she's holding up a memorystick suggests it's a flash memory device?

Yes
Ahem, HD is 2 megapixels per colour, i.e. 6 Megapixels in RGB. By the time it's chroma sampled to 4:2:0, you can call it 3 Megapixels, and it should outperform a 3 Megapixel stills camera by a long way, if they've got the electronics right. The problem with a camera of this size is the size of the pixels, not the number of them; the A1 has 2.2 micron pixels (1"/3 single sensor, 1920x1440), and I guess this will have even smaller pixels so it'll be less sensitive and suffer even more from iris diffraction (which starts at F/5.6 in 1"/3 cameras).
