Tape Rewinder.

I now have about 4 projects that I need to start editing and the first job is going to be to rewind all the Mini DV & DVCAM tapes back to the start.

Ok buy myself a DSR11 but really don't want to shell out another £800 -£1000

I have been using a Harma mini tape rewinder but a bit basic and probably dangerous.

So thinking about buying a new camcorder for about £150 - £200 just to rewind the tapes, but not sure if a mini dv camcorder will also rewind DVCAM.

As a further point does rewinding the tapes in the Sony PD 170 do a lot of damage to the heads anyway.

Cheers,

ZAK.

I've never seen the point of tape rewinders.

I beleive that 8mm used to keep the tape in contact with the heads so there was a reason for using them.

I've never bothered worrying, I use a DRS25, PD150/70s and anything that will PLAY the tapes, not worrying about the hours meter. Assuming you're talking miniDV sized DVCam, anything that plays MiniDV will wind but not play it. If you had loads of tapes and a busted camcorder then it might be worth it

Don't worry about it, even with 2000hrs on a DSR11 you'll still get £500-£600 back for it on Ebay.
