Saw some very effective looking tilt n shift lens filming on tv last night. Wondered if anyone has utilised this lens on their dslrs for event filming?
There's also some amazing effects on the 'Soviet Storm' programme on discovery. Panning and 3d look to old time footage. It looks amazing! Anyone else seen it?

Not seen it because I don't get Discovery. The truly ancient 'rising front' lenses are astoundingly good at fixing problems, but always have to be for rather larger format sensors than you'd expect, because they have to fill a larger output field..

The tilt shift lens was on channel 4 I think. I've seen plenty of still shots using this lens, and there's software that replicates the very shallow DOF very well, but the video was the first I've seen. Toytown at it's best.

I've shot a bit of tilt shift video. I wouldn't recommend it for events it's incredibly hard to get the focal plane to the correct place and you really need a big monitor to be able to visually check focus before committing to the shot. As an effect shot it can be great but your in real danger of wasting time shooting footage that is unusable and thus it's not a suitable technique for the event video producer.
I was only using a lensbaby - it might be a bit more reliable / repeatable with a proper lens like a nikon PC lens but they are very expensive for what is always going to be a specialist application. A stedicam operator mate of mine has shot some pretty extreme defocus effects footage for music videos using the lensbaby on a REDone - but it's not something that would work for your average video.
