I've been out of the loop when it comes to video editing so I'm not sure what's required anymore.
I built a system for my brother quite some time ago that is as follows:
AMD DURON 750
256 megs ram
Windows ME
Canopus Rapture
Adobe Premier 5
2 7200rpm Hard drives (40gigs and 80gigs)
And that seem to work good.
Now I'm upgrading his system to:
AMD XP 2800
512 ram (probably will buy another 512 for a total of 1gig)
2 7200rpm Hard drives (160gigs each)
8X DVD burner
Windows XP
So far I've bought all the parts above but still have to put it together.
I will probably go with Adobe Premier Pro (version 7) or 6.5 (depends if I buy it with the capture card)
Now, like the heading suggests, do I even need to buy a capture card? Are the current systems still to slow for capturing video? The capture resolution will be like before at 720x480.
If still need to buy a capture card, what's a good card to get that's in the price range of $250-$500? And does anyone have some good web sites for buying one?
Thanks
why not see if canopus are doing trade in's for the old raptor against say a new acedvio card / lets edit rt+ card.
not knowing which part of usa you live in i can only suggest you look at
http://www.canopus.us/Index_US.asp
and follow the links there.
Is the ACEDVio a capture card? It doesn't mention that fact on the web site from what I can tell. And I don't see anything on it's capture resolution.
If it is a capture card, is it better then the one I have now?
acedvio is an analogue/dv capture card.
http://www.canopus.us/US/products/ACEDVio/pm_ACEDVio.asp
let's edit rt+ is a similar device , with canopus own software.
http://www.canopus.us/US/products/Lets_EDIT/pm_lets_EDIT.asp
both clearly state they are capture cards.
are they better than raptor:
well if you need/want realtime editing then yes
if you don't mind rendering everything then no it isn't better , just different.
capture resolution will be full ntsc resolution.
Thanks for the info
